Study Program
At our Insitute you are able to study Sociology as a one-subject or as a part of a two-subject Bachelor Course. We also offer a Masters Course and a teaching degree for the subjects Politics and Society (Primary school and high school).
The courses consist of lectures and seminars. While the lectures are designed (and accompanying exercises) to teach fundamental knowlegde about Sociology, while the seminars concentrate on discussions about specific subject areas.
The range of courses can be classified in six different modules. Sociological theory, methods of emprical social studies, comparative social analysis, education and course of life, culture and communication as well as labour and organisation. Some courses can count into multiple modules. In the first semesters we recommend to take a “Basisseminar” as these are standardized.
Teaching is closely connected to the research at the institute. On one hand trough research seminars, connected to current research projects, as well as through the research done by the teaching staff.
If you have any questions connected to your studies you can contact the study-advisory. The representation of the student body present themselves on their own page.
Finishing your studies at the institute can result in many different places of work. Research on the graduates of the Institute of Sociology shows a broad distribution of occupational fields. For example media, marketing and advertising, consulting and further educations as well as scientific activities at universitys as well as other research institutions.
