Institute
We understand sociology as a science that reconstructs and analyzes social phenomena in their historicity as well as in the complex interplay of social action (micro level), institutional embedding of this action (meso level) and macro-sociological context conditions.
Our institute has seven professorships. The focus is on comparative social analysis, work and organization, education and the life course, culture and communication as well as sociological theory and methods of empirical social research. These areas not only structure the courses offered in the various degree programs for which the Institute is responsible, but also represent the main research areas of the Institute of Sociology staff. This has the advantage that current research topics can be regularly included in teaching.
